Trial by Trailer: Including…Brightburn

Is this good?
Will this be good?
Every movie trailer answers or challenges those 2 questions. The ham-fisted rebuttal comes swiftly, however: no you don’t need to always see a movie to know it’s tank.

Do you really need to sit through a Michael Bay Transformers movie to know for sure? Tank is Tank. And Fresh…well Fresh is always Fresh. I’m down like I’m Brown for that.

For the week of March 3-9, 2019 I cover:
Watching The Detectives
NOS4A2
The Act
The Corporate Coup D’Etat
Brightburn
I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu
What’s My Name – Muhammad Ali
Late Night
Someone Great
The Kid

Shall we begin?

Watching The Detectives (March 4)
Watching The Detectives is a) a fantastic Elvis Costello tune and 2) the latest series from George Stroumboulopoulos (I guess this would make it The Strombo Show?!)

Sammy Verdict: 100% IN! Gotta support my friends.

NOS4A2 (March 5)
NOS4A2 is the latest AMC TV show…adapted from a Joe Hill (Stephen King’s offspring) novel staring Ghetto-Spock Zachary Quinto. 10 parts; this Summer.

Sammy Verdict: Eh…I’m curious…want to see a bit more before I’m In.

The Act (March 5)
The Kissing Booth chick has cancer….or does she? The Act is on Hulu on March 20. It’s a true crime anthology series; not a fan of this genre; I’m impatient for this trend to end.

Sammy Verdict: Eh…this is a pass. The Kissing Booth 2 could be in for that.

The Corporate Coup D’Etat (March 5)
Fred Peabody’s follow up doc to the most excellent All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception and the Spirit of I. F. Stone is The Corporate Coup D’Etat and it’s playing at Hot Docs 2019!

Sammy Verdict: Chris Hedges, yo. I’m IN!

Brightburn (March 6)
Brightburn brings ruckus!! May 24, 2019. Evil Superman…Red Son Superman…hell yeah! Mash those simple townsfolk up real good evil alien dude.

Sammy Verdict: I’m IN!

I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu (March 6)
I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu is the 5th(!!) Spit movie but…this is a direct sequel to the original 78 banned movie that was later rebranded as a feminist film. If the branding holds true will it do well during #MeToo?

Sammy Verdict: April 23. I’m Out.

What’s My Name – Muhammad Ali (March 7)
What’s My Name is the latest Muhammad Ali doc (produced by LeBron yet again he’s attempting to dictate the narrative…so fired!) directed by Antoine Fuqua. “Just like Muhummad Ali they called him Cassius watch me bash this beat like a skull…”

Sammy Verdict: Even with the LeBron cheeze factor I’m up for a Muhammad Ali doc.

Late Night (March 7)
Late Night co-stars Mindy Kaling so I’m 100% OUT. Instantly. She’s awful…I ain’t $upporting or inve$ting in anything she does…I don’t need that mediocrity in my life.Which sucks since Emma Thompson looks solid in this. June 7.

Sammy Verdict: Mindy Kaling  Sucks…spread the word!

Someone Great (March 8)
Someone Great is ah…not that great. It’s one of those movies where the characters talk Twitter-snark and think it’s clever. April 19 on Netflix. Which is a shame as it’s got that Atlanta dude…I kind see why he broke up with em. I’m sure this’ll have a solid soundtrack.

Sammy Verdict: I’m Out!

The Kid (March 8)
The Kid is a western where Ethan Hawke is your Huckleberry. You know I haven’t seen a solid Western in years so I’d be down for this…out now: “You tell ’em I’m coming… and hell’s coming with me, you hear?”

Sammy Verdict: I’m IN! Haven’t seen a Western for a while.
