A Tool Time Salute To Kindness
Getting off the subway and exiting through the station’s main doors I noticed an old man shuffling along behind me.
I patiently held open the door so he could inch his way through.
He seemed to be some sort of veteran: his blue baseball hat and his black jacket were adorned with various “army” patches. (I use the word army interchangeably (I see the tree not the branches) though friends/family who’ve served will point out that’s a social faux pas. Eh…add it to my growing list.)
After he got through the doorway, he paused, leaned on his cane and gave me a salute.
OH SNAP! I’ve never been saluted before. It’s…really cool. Didn’t know if I should salute back or what…I hate feeling like a tourist.
I just shrugged and went on my way.
Daps, high fives…thumbs up, the ok sign these are the signs and symbols me and my people in my world readily use.
