Trial by Trailer: Including…Zombieland

Is this good?
Will this be good?
Every movie trailer answers or challenges those 2 questions. The ham-fisted rebuttal comes swiftly however: no you don’t need to always see a movie to know it’s tank.

Do you really need to sit through a Michael Bay Transformers movie to know for sure? Tank is Tank. And Fresh…well Fresh is always Fresh. I’m down like I’m Brown for that.

For the week of October 7-12, 2019 I cover:
Zombieland: Double Tap
Lost In Space: Season 2
Jenny Slate: Stage Fright
Klaus
2019 NBA Champions: Toronto Raptors
Charlie’s Angels

Shall we begin?

Zombieland: Double Tap (October 7)
100% IN for Zombieland: Double Tap, in theaters October 18!

Ruckus…Zombies…Rudeness…AC/DC: this is opening weekend money for true.

Sammy Verdict: How many sleeps until this opens?!

Lost In Space: Season 2! (October 7)
Hard Pass!!

What they lost was the plot. I instantly left this series before the first episode was done…I ain’t going back.

Stranger Things In Space: thanks but no thanks.

Sammy Verdict: Looks great taste awful.

Jenny Slate: Stage Fright (October 7)
Another Netflix comedy special: Jenny Slate: Stage Fright.

This is the type of nonsense people here who mocked Joker director Todd Phillips’ honest lament that political correctness is killing comedy would recommend. When somebody is making a legitimate point about comedy and the current critical state of our society quite frankly Kumail Nanjiani is not a legitimate rebuttal. That’s awful.

Worse…it only proves his point; not theirs. Todd Phillips is right.

October 22 on Netflix.

Sammy Verdict: Hard Pass. However if she’s got more Marcel the Shell with Shoes On then that I am 100% IN for!

Klaus (October 7)
On November 15 Netflix’ll be dropping what they’ll be hoping will become a Christmas Classic but it’s…eh with some meh.

I’ll stick with Die Hard. “Now I Have a Machine Gun HO-HO-HO!” is more Christmas that being visited by 3 ghosts.
Sammy Verdict: Hard Pass. It’ll take a Christmas Miracle for me me to see this.

2019 NBA Champions: Toronto Raptors (October 10)
As expected an NBA Championship comes with a documentary: Toronto Raptors get immortalized in the latest doc from NBA Entertainment. While I understand it’s an NBA tradition it’s bittersweet to look back rather than ahead…unless dramatic changes happen to the current lineup.

The documentary will be available on October 22, the same day the Raptors open the 2019-20 regular season at home to the New Orleans Pelicans. Zion!! I cannot wait to see what this kid can do. As for the doc I assume it’ll be floating around NBA TV as well. The 88 minute doc covers training camp to Oakland.

Sammy Verdict: In! I’m a sucker for all sports docs!

Charlie’s Angels (October 11)
Charlie’s Angels second trailer confirms this is a terrible movie. Why?

Why would anybody want to watch this in a Mission Impossible, John Wick world? Even te 21 Jump Street movies are clearly better. And this is after the first two deeply flawed Charlie’s Angels movies.

Sammy Verdict: Hard Pass! Even with Patrick Stewart. Actually Patrick Stewart’s presence means I’ll catch this on an airplane.
