Trial By Trailer: Including…The Invisible Man

Is this good?
Will this be good?
Every movie trailer answers or challenges those 2 questions. The ham-fisted rebuttal comes swiftly, however: no you don’t need to always see a movie to know it’s tank.

Do you really need to sit through a Michael Bay Transformers movie to know for sure? Tank is Tank. And Fresh…well Fresh is always Fresh. I’m down like I’m Brown for that.

For the week of November 3-9, 2019 I cover:
Bad Boys For Life
Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings
The Invisible Man
Soul
Wendy
The Photograph
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice
Servant

Shall we begin?

Bad Boys For Life (November 5)
Bad Boys For Life is…I dunno. The violence is alright I suppose but the appearance of youths is a bad, bad sign. Studios pull that crap all the time; the franchise hand-off (see the last Die Hard movie!). Yeah no I don’t do hand-offs. And no hot chicks?! No Michael Bay. A January release date (January 17, 2020)…a few bad signs.

Sammy Verdict: Not opening weekend but…whatcha gonna do?

Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings (November 5)
Though it’s a bit Nicholas Sparks-y Heartstrings on Netflix November 22 is by Dolly Parton so that’s at least 2 good reasons to check it out! #RimShot #Classics

Sammy Verdict: Eh…I’ll watch for a bit…maybe it’ll be as a fun as Dollywood!

The Invisible Man (November 7)
The Invisible Man is eh…we’ve seen a lot of this with Kevin Bacon’s Hollow Man. That was Elisabeth Shue; this is Elisabeth Moss. Things don’t really change.

Sammy Verdict: I’ll Netflix this…eventually. For now February 28.

Soul (November 7)
This trailer starts off engaging and you know this mighta been the first decent Pixar movie since…Up?

Sammy Verdict: Then dude fell down a whole and it went all Pixar and I’m 100% Out. Ugh, yeah, no. Not a Pixar fan at all.

Wendy (November 8)
Wendy is some sort of cheezy Peter Pan movie but I am not “Hook-ed.” The Levis Go Forth commercials were better; so is Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life (highly recommended movie!).

Sammy Verdict: February 28, 2020…eh, pass gas.

The Photograph (November 8)
Issa Rae thought making Little was a good idea…so: it’s hard to trust her taste. It doesn’t help every line in this trailer is so corny (every single one!).

Sammy Verdict: I am 100% OUT while The Photograph is out on Valentine’s Day!

Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice (November 8)
A Linda Ronstadt documentary: The Sound of My Voice. Huh; I don’t really have any pro or negative Ronstadt feelings. Maybe if this shows up on Netflix? Helps it is CNN Films, though. They do such a solid job.

Sammy Verdict: Since I dunno anything about Ronstadt I can’t tell if is…No Good. Come on. You hadda know that was coming!

Servant (November 8)
Servant is M. Night Shyamalan being creepy on Apple TV. Like honestly…why make something nobody is gonna see? November 28 first 3 episodes drop. I dunno if I can watch 10 episodes of this.

Sammy Verdict: Eh…maybe?
