Merry Christmas (2020)
So here we are: Merry Christmas. To paraphrase James Gordon: “Because this is the Christmas we got, but not the one we want right now.” Though as you can see the sign by the tree: “Unwrap Infinite Possibilities.” That’s about all you can do each and every day, right? The Choice Is Yours.
Hopefully you get to spend time time and be sarcastic with the ones you love. Because distance doesn’t affect sarcasm.
And if Santa was good to you…well: that’s disappointing.
The coolest people are often on the naughty list. I’m literally hanging out with the wrong people. Sigh.
Guess that’s what New Year’s Resolutions are for…make more friends with the naughty list crew.

My Pop Culture Week: The Christmas Setup
Typically I kick off this party by sharing something special from my Pop Culture Week: a check-in with my pop culture happenings. Let’s switch it up with a look-ahead to December 12 on Lifetime.
It’s ok!
I haven’t come down with a case of Christmas Cheer…lol! (Turns out it was just heartburn from a rather large pulled pork poutine.) Rather I’m supporting delightful director Pat Mills: here we are at TIFF in 2017 I think?
His Lifetime movie The Christmas Setup stars Fran Drescher (oh you can’t even imagine how excited he was about that!) and real-life married couple Ben Lewis and Blake Lee…I dunno they are. But! Pat’s work as a director is fantastic.
Here’s the trailer:
So yeah if you can #SetTheVCR on December 12 at 8 pm on the Lifetime Channel for The Christmas Setup on Lifetime and support Pat that’d be great. After all, Christmas is a time for…pulled pork poutine?
(The Christmas Setup’s Canadian premiere will be December 18 at 8pm on something called CTV Drama Channel. (Do I have that?! I know Mary J. Blige doesn’t…she called the cable station and said: “No More Drama.” #Rimshot)?

My Pal Sammy Episode 2: Expectations vs Reality
Every Christmas break I pantlessly sit and watch and absorb a lot of pop culture (books, comic books, tv shows and movies) and then I have tea and I think a lot and I write a lot so this time I’m recording a handful of My Pal Sammy episodes; this is my Captain’s Log…a record of some of the pop culture I’ve been consuming and some of the stuff I’ve been thinking about over my 2018 Christmas Break.
Listen here or click on the handy dandy download link.
Tonight…Christmas Day 2018 shortly after midnight and as I sip my tea I’m thinking about Expectations vs Reality. This topic was prompted by:
Kobe Bryant’s The Mamba Mentality
Driven from Within by Michael Jordan
the movie Whiplash
Eminem’s song The Ringer
Thanks for listening.

Tonight…Christmas Eve shortly after midnight my tea-fuelled-thinking is focused on how you can be popular or you can be relevant. This topic was prompted by watching:
Adam Sandler’s 100% Fresh (Netflix)
Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable (Netflix)
Coldplay: A Head full of Dreams (Amazon Prime)
Oasis: Supersonic (Amazon Prime)
Springsteen on Broadway (Netflix)
Bendis’ Man of Steel (DC Comics)

The Predator Holiday Special Jingles My Bells
Suck It Twice Love Actually: The Predator Holiday Special is an instant Christmas Classic. (With all due respect to Mr. Dickens.)
The Predator as a movie is still a Nutcracker and I ain’t sitting through this installment…every sequel in the Predator franchise is on the naughty list.
20th Century Fox is going out hard…guns blazing before a recently thawed Walt Disney and his Nazi friends come to claim their soul.
The new company called “Fox” will be starting as of January 1, 2019.
