#SetTheVCR for Sunday, March 31 to Saturday, April 6, 2019

Behold all the seasons and shows I’ve missed for various nonsensical reasons giving me another opportunity via another season. It remains to be “seen” if I’ll watch. That’s the nice thing about tv…you often get a second chance even if you don’t deserve it.

Sunday, March 31
Trailer Park Boys: The Animated Series, Netflix

Barry: Season 2 (10 p.m.) HBO
Gratefully Barry returns for Season 2 which is impressive since so few people watched Season 1 (is it considered irony when a show about a hitman isn’t a hit?). The dark show is so much fun: it’s got real violence and it’s got real comedy (it’s that weird tone in we’re currently seeing in tv shows like Atlanta and Orville). Bonus? Fonzie is in it and he’s incredible. Highly recommend this show: especially since Bill Hader is a fine nerd like all of us.

Smell Ya Later: SMILF. Frankie Shaw’s show ends its run after two seasons. (10:30 p.m.) Showtime

Monday, April 1
Penn & Teller: Fool Us (9 p.m.) CW
I Am Richard Pryor, Crave
ULTRAMAN: Season 1, Netflix
All The President’s Men, Netflix
Punk (10 p.m.) Epix (Nirvana, Religion, Green Day and L7, etc., on the conclusion of the four-part docu-series)

The Twilight Zone, CBS All Access
In Toronto this third Twilight Zone reboot will air on Thursday April 4 (not April 1st!!) on City TV at 9pm. It’ll be a 2-hour premiere: Nightmare at 30,000 Feet (which can’t improve on the original! Nightmare At 20,000 Feet is Richard Matheson, Richard Donner and Rod Serling. Jordan Peele can’t surpass that. It’s Impossible. We all know this because Nightmare was remade in the 80s. So you wanna do it again? Why?) & The Comedian with Kumail Nanjiani. We’ll see. I’ve been through these reboots before…plus the movie and while they’ve all been “submitted for your approval” none of em have a lingering hold on pop culture like Serling’s original scintillating vision (which you can happily still enjoy on Space!).

Tuesday, April 2
Kevin Hart: Irresponsible, Netflix
Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (8 p.m.) PBS (Kehinde Wiley, yo!)

The Last O.G.: Season 2 (10:30 p.m.) TBS
Let’s stick with tv shows that were surprisingly renewed Alex. Did anybody watch the first season of The Last O.G.? Did you? I honestly meant to get around to it: Tracy Morgan is hilarious but I…ah took a nap. Truly I spend my days mystified at what gets renewed; surprised at what’s cancelled.

Wednesday, April 3
Suzzanna: Buried Alive, Netflix

Brockmire: Season 3 (10 p.m.) IFC
Brockmire got up to season 3?! Granted this is a baseball-themed comedy and baseball is America’s pastime still season three? If you noticed a pattern here…I dig Hank Azaria (dude’s still killing it on The Simpsons!) and I had good intentions to watch the show but I…ah went out for brunch. 3 seasons is too deep; might be too late for me but save yourselves.

Thursday, April 4
Unspeakable (9 p.m.) SundanceTV
In The Dark: Season 1 (9 p.m.) The CW

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger: Season 2 (8 p.m.) Freeform
Cloak & Dagger did not live up to its name people clearly discovered it and enjoyed it. That’s good news for these “Runaways.” I had positive intentions to watch the show but I…ah went out to pick up a pastrami sandwich and I missed the whole season. I’m gonna try again with Season 2.

Friday, April 5
Warrior: Season 1 (10 p.m.) Cinemax
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 2, Netflix
Into the Dark: I’m Just Fucking With You, Hulu
The Tick: Season 2, Amazon Prime Video
Unicorn Store, Netflix
Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas: Season 2 (11 p.m.) HBO
I Love You, America, Season 1-2, Crave

Doom Patrol: Season 1 (9 p.m.) Space
I enjoyed Doom Patrol‘s appearance in Titans. Like Titans Doom Patrol first appeared on the DC Universe streaming service. (We’re supposed to be getting Swamp Thing later this year and I cannot wait for that.) However in a weird quirk of streaming and rights and other online nonsense Doom Patrol is airing in Canada on Space and Crave. And James Bond is public domain here. I don’t understand what’s happening anymore. So rather than figure all that out let’s just watch Doom Patrol and call it a day.

Saturday, April 6
Sickboy (9 p.m.) Fuse

2019 NCAA Basketball Tournament: The Final Four face off with the winners set to meet in the championship game on April 8. 3 and 5:30 p.m. CBS
The 2019 Zion Williamson sweepstakes is coming to an end. Even if Duke didn’t make it this far or is not the winner Zion is always going to be a winner because he’s going to sign some big fat checks. March Madness is a fantastic trailer for upcoming NBA seasons what kind of players we can expect. Especially these tight games towards the end of the tournament: they help us all get a better sense of the players. March Madness is a fantastic appetizer before the NBA Playoffs start on April 13th the real season. So let’s do this thing yo!
