#SetTheVCR: February 2-8, 2020
This February you get 29 tv watching days; not 28. Isn’t that great? For now here’s some dynamic offerings for you to kick of this extra-long month.
Sunday, February 2
Sammy Suggestion: Super Bowl LIV (6:30 p.m. / Fox)
It’s chili and chicken wings O’clock. The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers battle it out for NFL supremacy and greatness at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. And you know what? This has the potential to be a solid game. I expect the game to be close, the Chiefs to win, the commercials to be memorable and the chili to be spicy.
Monday, February 3
Sammy Suggestion: McMillions (10 p.m. / HBO)
The McDonalds’ fraud that made the FBI Grimace! The company that gave us the commercial slogan keep your eyes on your fries failed to keep their eyes on their Monopoly game and it got rigged. How? Who? And did he go directly to jail without passing Go? And how many Hamburglar jokes can we make before they start to hurt his feelings? While this material sounds fascinating 6 parts for a doc-series is a bit much. Still, let’s get into this sweet and sour sauce.
Tuesday, February 4
Tom Papa: You’re Doing Great (Anytime / Netflix)
Sammy Suggestion: Network vs State of the Union (see below)
Prepare yourself for a perfectly outrageous motion picture! is the tagline for the 1976 movie Network. Network was added to Crave on February 1st so you can watch that tonight OR you can watch the 45th President of the United States of America deliver the annual State of the Union address. Am I giving you a choice or are these sorta kinda the same thing? The State of the Union is on all of the regular channels at 9 p.m.
Wednesday, February 5
The Pharmacist (Anytime / Netflix)
Sammy Suggestion: Lego Masters: Season 1 (9 p.m. / Fox)
Sing it you know it: “she’s a brick house; she’s mighty mighty, just letting it all hang out. I like ladies stacked and that’s a fact.” The Commodores were not singing about stacking lego blocks. Though if I was one of the participants in Lego Masters this new competition series Brick House would be on deck theme music. Wonder what host Will Arnett would think of that?
Thursday, February 6
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 7 (8 p.m. / NBC)
The Sinner: Season 3 (9 p.m. / USA Network)
Briarpatch (10 p.m. / USA Network)
Sammy Suggestion: 30 or 30: Vick (9 p.m. / ESPN)
Part 2 of Vick the 30 for 30 on the NFL quarterback Michael Vick concludes. I mentioned this last week; it’s a 30 for 30 always check em out. And stay tuned for the 30 for 30 on Bruce Lee. Man; I cannot wait for that doc.
Friday, February 7
Honey Boy (Anytime / Amazon Prime)
Horse Girl (Anytime / Netflix)
Sammy Suggestion: Locke & Key: Season 1 (Anytime / Netflix)
I got yelled at by aggressive nerds on Twitter for not reading the Locke & Key comics. Eh…well now I don’t hafta, right? Written by Joe Hill Locke & Key is illustrated by Gabriel Rodríguez and published by IDW Publishing. (Netflix adapted IDW’s V Wars I’ve yet to read or see that. I’ve committed lotta nerd sins.) According to the ye old media release: “Locke & Key revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.” The trailer looks like a Tim Burton movie (maybe Big Fish?) meets The House with a Clock in Its Walls (the murdered dad is not played by Jack Black is he??!). I’m in for an episode or two.
Saturday, February 8
Sammy Suggestion: XFL Doubleheader (11 a.m. & 2 p.m. / ABC & Fox)
If you listen to Geek Hard on Friday nights you’ll catch wrestling references. Which I usually do not get. However, Vince McMahon who I know without googling is a wrestling guy has rebooted the XFL. This quirky football league had a one and done season back in 2001. Well now for reasons I cannot understand any more than a Geek Hard wrestling reference the XFL returns today. The Dragons vs. the Defenders are 11 am on ABC and at 2 pm on Fox, you can see the Wildcats vs. the Roughnecks.
