New Book Alert: October 14-18, 2019

My weekly collection of new and notable books for your pop culture pleasure and edification: #ReadMoreTweetLess.

Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky (Grand Central Publishing; Novel on sale October 1, 2019): We haven’t had an evil imaginary friend tale since like I dunno know how long…it’s great writers are keeping these classics “alive.” This is the latest from The Perks of Being A Wallflower writer: I’ve started reading this novel and it is fantastic. A Must Read! #NewBookAlert for October 14, 2019.

Suicide Woods by Benjamin Percy (Graywolf Press; Short Stories on sale October 15, 2019): So Benjamin Percy wants you to go into the woods…in October…with him. What’s the worst that can happen…right? Right…
Any fan of Stephen King or Dean Koontz or like…good ol fashioned solid writing would be wise to check out Percy’s latest (and non-comics work): Suicide Woods. #NewBookAlert for October 15, 2019.

Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong (Random House; on sale October 15, 2019): Hey Ladies! Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice for Living Your Best Life is Ali Wong’s first book thus completing the stand up comic business model. Her success can now be your success! It’s also letters to her daughters about dating, business and like…life stuff. #NewBookAlert for October 16, 2019.

Mindfuck: CambridgeAnalytica and the Plot to Break America by Christopher Wylie (Random House; on sale October 8, 2019): While it’s fashionable to throw Facebook under the bus…Facebook isn’t to blame for the Trump election or any of our current problems…the real problem…is us. Like, have you seen our education system? Why would we tackle Facbook before repairing the education system? We’re a society that doesn’t actively read or go to documentaries or participate in meaningful intellectual activities. So yeah…we can fix or even get rid of Facebook today but The Stupid are always with us. #NewBookAlert for October 17, 2019.

The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek (Portfolio Books; on sale October 15, 2019): The latest book from Simon Sinek; I’ll be honest I go back and forth with this guy. I can’t tell if he’s a TED Talk master or if he’s a low-rent Seth Godin or what his deal is. I have a hard time knowing what his agenda is and where he is coming from. That aside? The Infinite Game is about the infinite mindset vs zero-sum game debate! I tend to lean towards the zero-sum mindset. #NewBookAlert for October 18, 2019.
