National Poetry Month: Khalil Gibran (by Paul Allardyce)

Today we have a guest blogger!

Paul Allardyce writes an awesome blog in tenor & vogue that is: “an attempt to take account of those who have contributed to my personal style in attitude, performance and appearance.” Rock Steady. Yes. Take it away Paul:

As a writer, poet and visual artist, gibran’s collected work has received far more recognition and acclaim in the last 50 years than he would have imagined in his lifetime. A common theme in his work was love; the exploration of spiritual, brotherly and romantic love as well as the love we have for our place on earth and our place in the heavens with our creator.

“let these be your desires”
by Khalil Gibran

love has no other desire but to fulfill itself
but if your love and must needs have desires,
let these be your desires:

to melt and be like a running brook
that sings its melody to the night.
to know the pain of too much tenderness.
to be wounded by your own understanding of love;
and to bleed willingly and joyfully.
to wake at dawn with a winged heart
and give thanks for another day of loving;
to rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
to return home at eventide with gratitude;
and then to sleep with a prayer
for the beloved in your heart
and a song of praise upon your lips.
