AKA Rocky 7: My Creed
Made the mistake of watching Rocky 7 aka Creed…so dumb: it’s Rocky’s Hilary Swank Karate Kid. (Least that had Michael Ironside).
I get there is a desperate movement to adopt it as a modern American myth, or black cinema or, or or….like a donkey in the middle east it’s been weighed down with all kinds of expectations and culture appropriations. Sure, go for it…the hype doesn’t match quality.
Creed doesn’t work…it is embarrassingly cheezy, devoid of depth and it’s worst crime…Creed is clichéd. The diversity agenda was more important than the creativity.
Creed is not even hungry…go back and watch the first Rocky movie: that’s hungry: the characters and the filmmaker.
Rockys never made it past 4…by the fourth the Rocky franchise had willingly surrendered to formula. Cheeze is comforting. And profitable. Creed extends that cheeze streak rather than attempting to circumvent it: cheeze is comforting and profitable.
Still ignore Rocky 5, 6 and now 7.
Recognize Rocky as the sports (media) template:
2 Rockys before ESPN formed
3 Rockys before Nike’s tv ads
4 Rockys as Jordan joined the Bulls #GOAT
The only thing Rocky 7 was effective at is finally fusing Rocky with the Jordan brand: Be Jordan Never B Jordan is my Creed.
