Trial By Trailer: Including…Project Blue Book: Season 2

Is this good?
Will this be good?
Every movie trailer answers or challenges those 2 questions. The ham-fisted rebuttal comes swiftly, however: no you don’t need to always see a movie to know it’s tank.

Do you really need to sit through a Michael Bay Transformers movie to know for sure? Tank is Tank. And Fresh…well Fresh is always Fresh. I’m down like I’m Brown for that.

For the week of November 17-23, 2019 I cover:
Project Blue Book: Season 2
Party of Five
Magic for Humans: Season 2
V Wars
The Call of the Wild
Mike Birbiglia: The New One
Pixar IRL
6 Underground
Depeche Mode: SPIRITS in the Forest

Shall we begin?

Project Blue Book: Season 2 (November 19)
Oh yes!! So waiting for this news: Project Blue Book: Season 2 begins January 21, 2020. Area 51 and Roswell. Yes, yes y’all. This trailer soundly spanks Spielberg’s Close Encounters dreck.

Sammy Verdict: The Truth Is Out There and I wanna hear and see it…

Party of Five (November 19)
ummm why does this exist? While Full House and Mad About You have brought back original casts and added new seasons of shenanigans this is an actual reboot. Why?!

Sammy Verdict: 100% Out. Thankfully they did not make this for me!

Magic for Humans: Season 2 (November 19)
If you haven’t seen/enjoyed Season 1 get on that too…it is (of course…) magical. If you dug the first few David Blaine specials all magic on the street then this’ll be a delight! Justin Willman is so good!

Sammy Verdict: It’s magic so you had me at Hello.

V Wars (November 19)
The latest comic book to tv show adaptation: V Wars is an IDW comic book series from writer Jonathan Maberry. (I never read the comic so I don’t have any expectations going into this.) According to the basic description: “V Wars follows the story of a scientist and his best friend as they face the evolving crisis of a deadly outbreak that fractures society into opposing factions, potentially escalating to a future war between humans and vampires.” So not quite as fun as Underworld which was vampires vs werewolves but still with the solid potential for ruckus

Sammy Verdict: #TeamRuckus Reporting for Duty? Not sure. Maybe an episode or two.

The Call of the Wild (November 20)
Nothing to see here, move along please.

Sammy Verdict: Never Gonna Happen My Friend.

Mike Birbiglia: The New One (November 22)
Mike Birbiglia occupies that odd spot between stand up comedy and one-man shows. It’s a cozy spot that’s recently grown with the additions of Chris Gethard (Career Suicide on HBO) and Neal Brennan (3 Mics on Netflix and highly recommended!). Birbiglia’s previous one-man show Sleepwalk with Me is incredible. He is back with The New One with his usual insightful POV he’s riffing on fatherhood and being all parental.

Sammy Verdict: His stuff is great so if even if like me you don’t got kids this’ll be a good time!

Pixar IRL (November 12)
Don’t think Netflix is sweating Disney Plus. This? This is “content.”

Sammy Verdict: Yeah; no. I can’t even handle Pixar in like Fake Life.

6 Underground (November 14)
Sweet Josh Groban!! 6 Underground is part of a complete ruckus meal with witness the fitness chicks, a sports car chase, guns, death-defying leaps, waterfall crashing penthouses and it’s right before Christmas on Netflix yo!! And YES! How did we get so lucky on Friday the 13th? More balls to the wall ruckus from Michael Bay; we all know the routine by now. (Like why did Netflix release Marriage Story but not this one?!)

Sammy Verdict: #TeamRuckus Reporting for Duty.

Depeche Mode: SPIRITS in the Forest (November 14)
So I’ve been more of a New Order music fan however Depeche Mode is not only cool but this documentary is directed by Anton Corbijn who as a director gave us The American and Control.

Sammy Verdict: Team 80s Reporting for Duty!
