Trial by Trailer: Including…Joker

Is this good?
Will this be good?
Every movie trailer answers or challenges those 2 questions. The ham-fisted rebuttal comes swiftly however: no you don’t need to always see a movie to know it’s tank.

Do you really need to sit through a Michael Bay Transformers movie to know for sure? Tank is Tank. And Fresh…well Fresh is always Fresh. I’m down like I’m Brown for that.

For the week of March 31-April 6 2019 I cover:
The Dead Don’t Die
The Boys
Fosse/Verdon
Joker
Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island?
Ozone Hole: How We Saved the Planet
The Personal History of David Copperfield
Richard Jewell

Shall we begin?

The Dead Don’t Die (April 1)
Oh Yes I’m 100% in for The Dead Don’t Die. Even with Adam Driver who is so overwhelming incapable of creating anything good much less great. On June 14 this’ll be a sweet appetizer until Zombieland: Double Tap drops on October 11.

Sammy Verdict: Will this be Team Ruckus?!

The Boys (April 1)
The Boys is the latest comic book tv show (also clearly shot in Toronto). Based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic…this very Watchmen like show will screen on Amazon Prime Summer of 2019.

Sammy Verdict: I am IN! Not sure what to expect but let’s see where this goes…

Fosse/Verdon (April 2)
Truly the only reason I’d watch this Fosse biopic is to better understand Chazz Busby jokes on The Simpsons. Granted they didn’t make this for me: Fosse/Verdon airs on Tuesday April 9 on FX.

Sammy Verdict: This song and dance does nothing for me. I’m out…with jazz hands.

Joker (April 3)
So…basically the Joker movie is 2 hours of Steve Miller lyrics?

“I’m a joker, I’m a smoker
I’m a midnight toker
I sure don’t want to hurt no one

People talk about me, baby
Say I’m doing you wrong, doing you wrong”

Sammy Verdict: Eh…maybe.

Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? (April 5)
Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? none of the people who made this Netflix movie. Drops April 12.

Sammy Verdict: I’m 100% out. Voted myself off the island.

Ozone Hole: How We Saved the Planet (April 5)
Ozone Hole: How We Saved the Planet recalls a quaint time when scientists and politicians actually came together to avert an environmental catastrophe. Right? Wednesday 10pm on PBS!

Sammy Verdict: Eh…maybe.
