The Girth Radio Mystery

My latest (and greatest?) adventure? What kind of adventure you ask? Driving around in a van solving mysteries perhaps? (I wish! Does anybody do that anymore…)

I’m running a radio station actually: Girth Radio!

I’m part of the dynamic team setting it up.

Turns out I learned things hanging out at the Edge 102 all those years. I’m also Avengers Assembling a digital agency connected to the radio station where we can develop app/websites/nerd materials. (Slick Idea…to start a digital agency called Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Marketing Magic!) I’m recognizing there are opportunities for online ruckus…new ideas and bold platforms. For all of us.

I’ve also learned about the hard work business of podcasting.

My podcast advice is make it to 8 episodes or so. We’re having lotta dropouts at the station. Which is great: wheat and chaff.

I’m grappling with what makes compelling radio. Not sure what the Gold Standard will be. Writing and filmmaking are easy and established. Even with the podcasts I listen to I don’t have a Gold Standard. I got bored with Serial 1 episode in, yet it’s a huge hit.

The Gold Standard struggle is related to creating an equity structure to reward our Hosts. Metrics reflect popularity not quality. Err quality is the wrong word. I want to figure out how build a platform to designed to facilitate, equip and ultimately reward risk. And that…I dunno how to do. That’s a mystery that’s gonna require more than just a van.
