I watched the first episode of Netflix’s Daredevil. Whew: they got lots of it right!

(It was weird to see cry-babies on Twitter complaining about spoilers…there’s the obvious irony…people watching a show about a blind guy who don’t want to see what’s happening next…but it’s a classic comic book origin story. Are you watching to find out which character will become Daredevil?!)

Sadly there’s no plot for me…it’s all painfully predictable. 🙁 I wanna see something new: this is like when Martin Sheen was Uncle Ben in The Amazing Spider-Man…I FF-ed all of that. I ain’t no business: die already. That Uncle Ben lasted more than 20 minutes. Yo that’s unnecessary.

The Daredevil ruckus helps but it’s not enough I need a bit more than that…I already know Matt’s bum-dad dies, Stick trains him, the system is corrupt and when the law fails Daredevil delivers justice etc.

(You can tell the way they were stretching it out Stick wouldn’t appear until 5 to 7 episodes in, DD’s classic red suit maybe 10/11 episodes in etc. And from what I’ve seen online of Daredevil’s Netflix red suit…s’Flash like. I prefer the Ben Affleck DD suit (only the suit! Affleck’s “Daredevil” is an abomination!) I dunno what the comic book to episode ratio is but the way this season is set up it’s more like comic book panel to episode…you know what I mean?)

I’ll be back for Season 2 for sure. This is my type of show…what I was hoping Arrow would be. “Elektra is on the radar.” That better be code for The Hand. Let’s get this useless origin season over to unleash The Hand, Bullseye etc. Heat it up! I can’t wait.

I’ll comfortable skip this season, same old same old. I like Superman II not Superman I. Let’s get on with it. While I wait I’m currently super enjoying Mark Waid’s Daredevil run!

Oh and hah: ran into my Comic Book Dealer. He watched Daredevil episode 1 and the last episode, skipped all of the middle. We’re all odd nerds.

To be fair it is a hard balance…to please hardcore nerds and satisfy a civilian audience.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a rare example…they offered a lot of freshness for comic book readers and civilians. That balance is rare.

Joss Whedon’s inability to provide layers is why I ain’t a fan of Age of Ultron: Whedon’s lazy. He’s simple like white bread. I’m happy Marvel is moving on and seeing other directors. (Not fully sure who they are but the Russo Bros. should work well for Avengers 3 and 4).

Look how layered and nuanced Captain America: The First Avenger is, compared to Avengers 2. So many Easter Eggs, tiny powerful moments that convey multiple meanings. Do The Work. Captain America 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy 1 are 2 of Marvel’s best works primarily because they got the balance correct.

Bottom Line? I really hope Daredevil on Netflix holds up; connects with viewers and keeps going. Shield was crap and Agent Carter crappier. Marvel’s struggled with tv but done well with the movies. Daredevil could be the start of something special.
